Project Beacon Gayallah

About the Project

Project Beacon Gayallah is Rahe Ilm’s flagship initiative dedicated to breaking the cycle of child labor through the power of education. Launched in a remote village where schools were scarce and poverty forced children into work, this project shines as a beacon of hope, bringing learning, dignity, and opportunity where they were once out of reach. Through scholarships, community schools, and skill development programs, we help children transition from labor to learning, ensuring they not only gain knowledge but also practical skills for a sustainable future.

Why This Project

In many villages across Pakistan, childhood looks very different from what most of us know. Instead of schoolbooks and playgrounds, children often carry mops, hammers, or trays of tea. In the village where this project began, there were no schools nearby, and for most families, sending their children away to study was simply impossible. Survival came first. Parents, facing crushing poverty, had no choice but to put their children to work. Boys cleaned houses or labored in fields, while girls often worked as domestic help or stayed home to care for younger siblings. Education became a luxury, not a right. The result was a cycle that kept families trapped: children grew up without literacy or skills, earning too little to ever give their own children a better future. This project exists to break that cycle. By supporting education for children in under-resourced communities, we are not just giving them a chance to learn, we are giving them a chance to dream, to earn, and to build a different life than the one poverty dictates.

AIMS

Breaking the Cycle of Child Labor

The goal of this project is to make education possible for children who would otherwise spend their days working instead of learning. We aim to break the cycle of child labor by providing scholarships that allow kids to leave work and attend school, while also supporting programs that equip them with practical skills to build a better future. Beyond getting children into classrooms, we focus on initiatives that give them independence and dignity, like vocational training and small business programs designed for students with disabilities.
But our work doesn’t stop with direct support, we also strive to raise awareness about educational inequality. Through our blog, interviews, and partnerships, we share the real stories of students, parents, and educators so others can see both the urgency of the problem and the power of the solutions. Together, these efforts aim to turn education from a privilege for the few into a right for every child, no matter where they are born.
The impact of Project Beacon Gayallah extends far beyond the classroom walls. Each child we help represents a ripple of change, inspiring their siblings, peers, and even parents to believe in the power of education. Communities that once saw child labor as a necessity are beginning to see learning as the true path to progress.

Fundraising

To fund this project, we hosted several bake sales. Donors from both Lahore, Pakistan, and Forsyth County, Georgia, played a huge role in the success of this project. Many in urban Pakistan connected with the plight of children’s education and donated as well as volunteered to travel to the village to help with the project. Their help in alerting locals to this project and helping us find a suitable destination in Gayallah for our distribution drive and educational workshop was invaluable.
